Pirate-themed brewery in Sarasota bets on concept as craft beer market shifts

Jay Trotter is confident his pirate-themed, Jimmy Buffett-inspired brewery will stand apart and survive as craft beer’s popularity declines.

Trotter and Travis Oldenburg are the co-founders of a new brewery concept, Gulf Coast Brewing Co., in Sarasota. The pair signed a 20-year lease for the 5,000-square-foot space at 4571 Clark Road in Sarasota. The space was previously home to a cigar bar.
