Keiser University sues landlord over lease termination as developer eyes 355-unit apartment project

A legal battle over Keiser University's Clearwater campus could determine whether a North Carolina developer can move forward with plans to replace the property with a 355-unit apartment community.

Keiser University alleges in a June 10 lawsuit that Crown Pointe on 19 LLC, the owner of the 12-acre property at 16120 U.S. Highway 19 N, improperly terminated the university’s lease to enable the sale and redevelopment of the property. As the legal battle continues, North Carolina-based Aventon Companies has filed a site plan with the city of Largo to turn the campus into a 355-unit apartment community.
