St. Petersburg City Council upheld approval for a more than 600-unit apartment development in South St. Pete, despite an appeal from the developer who’s building thousands of units across the street.

Altis Cardinal, the developer behind SkyTown in South St. Petersburg, sought an appeal for Kolter Multifamily’s 619-unit apartment complex proposed for the St. Petersburg College Allstate Campus. The development site sits directly across 34th Street from SkyTown, a mixed-use development slated to bring 2,084 units and 92,000 square feet of retail. Six of seven council members voted to deny the appeal Thursday evening.
