Kroger incentives backlash prompts Lake County leaders to respond, share next steps

Local government officials are working to answer concerns about job incentives after Kroger's decision to shutter its massive Groveland facility.

The Cincinnati-based grocer (NYSE: KR) announced Nov. 18 it will close three e-commerce fulfillment centers at the end of January — including one in Groveland — “to optimize its fulfillment network,” according to a news release. The move at the 350,000-square-foot building with U.K.-based robotics firm Ocado will affect more than 1,400 jobs in the state and will result in the loss of one of Lake County's largest employers.
