St. Pete, Pinellas County float convention center idea for Trop site

As a potential sale of the Tampa Bay Rays looms, St. Petersburg and Pinellas County are working together to determine the future of Tropicana Field — a future that might include a convention center.

City Development Administrator James Corbett told city council members in an email on Wednesday that the city and county, after a meeting with Pinellas County Administrator Barry Burton, had decided to collaborate on a feasibility study for a convention center as part of the reimagined Historic Gas Plant District.
