RETURN TO NEWS INDEX The Haven purchases land for new Sarasota community The nonprofit purchased the roughly three-acre property on May 14 for $1.05 million, according to the Sarasota County Property Appraiser. A donation from the Shapiro family made the purchase possible, according to a release.
The development, which will be called The Haven Residences at UTC, is roughly 300 yards from the entrance to The Haven's main 32-acre campus.
“The Haven Residences at UTC will be privately owned and operated, ensuring personalized care and a sense of ownership and independence for our residents,” President and CEO Brad Jones said in a release.
The community will offer a range of living options, including two- to four-bedroom homes, which are designed to provide a “safe and inclusive community for individuals seeking independence and support,” according to the organization.
The houses will face the community center to emphasize “front porch living” and encourage residents to connect with their neighbors. The community will feature a clubhouse with a gym, theater, and game room.
The community is also within walking distance of the UTC Mall, Nathan Benderson Rowing Facility, and a variety of restaurants. UTC features a variety of shoppers, including Target, REI, Ultra Beauty, and Old Navy. The mall has roughly 100 stores and 20 restaurants. The Haven Residences at UTC is approximately 7 miles from downtown Sarasota.
The Haven offers various programs and services, including Selby Preschool, Haven Academy, Adult Day Training, Haven Industries, community employment, and residential services. It was established in 1954 by the Community Haven for Children and Adults with Disabilities Inc. |
