RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Here's how much Caspers paid for Wright's Gourmet real estate in South Tampa Tampa’s Caspers Co., helmed by siblings Blake Casper and Allison Casper Adams, closed on the sale of Wright’s — its business and real estate — on July 1. Financial terms of the Caspers’ acquisition were not disclosed, but Hillsborough County records have revealed the price of Wright’s property. The Caspers appear to have paid cash for the real estate; a mortgage has not been filed.
Wright’s sits on 2.5 acres, property records show, and has a 17,696-square-foot building.
Jeff Mount, grandson of Wright’s founders, Marjorie and Pete Wright, sold the sandwich shop to the Caspers. When Mount bought the business from his grandparents, Wright’s was a tenant at the property, and several other businesses were in its immediate vicinity.
The modern-day incarnation of Wright’s is the fourth version to exist since its founding in 1963. Mount told the Tampa Bay Business Journal that he acquired the first portion of the property in 1999 and another piece in 2001.
Mount bought Wright’s from his grandparents on July 1, 1981, 43 years to the day before selling it to Caspers. The Caspers, who were the largest McDonald’s franchisee in Florida before selling their stores to McDonald’s corporate in 2022, are also behind Tampa’s Oxford Exchange, Predalina, Stovall House, Casa Cami, The Current Hotel, Mad Dogs and Englishmen and The Library in St. Petersburg.
The Caspers will own Wright’s under Caspers Co.; it won’t be folded into Oxford Commons, the hospitality company that owns their other restaurant concepts.
“It’s such an iconic brand and beloved institution,” Casper told the Business Journal. “There’s nice growth, year over year, and we really have no plans for changing anything.” |
