Townhome community opens in St. Petersburg's Warehouse Arts district

A new townhome community is officially open in St. Petersburg’s Warehouse Arts district.

Canvas City Homes WAD, developed by Tampa-based Sight Development, features 10 units. The community, located at 2724 Fifth Ave. S, held its grand opening on May 21.

"Canvas City Homes is meant to be an artist’s canvas, a blank slate for owners to add their personal style; it's a reflection of the unique spirit of St. Petersburg," Michael Mincberg, principal at Sight Development, said in a release. The project will be a major contributor to "the growth and vitality" of the Warehouse Arts District, he said in the statement.

The townhomes have an industrial chic aesthetic and include polished concrete floors, exposed block walls, and high ceilings. They also have private balconies and front yards and range from 2,000 square feet to 2,100 square feet. Each unit has three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and a two-car garage. The community greenspace features collaborative installations with local artists.

Pricing for the townhomes ranges from $700,000 to $725,000. Four of the 10 units have sold.

A large mural is painted on the project, reflecting the surrounding street art and murals that are scattered throughout the Warehouse Arts district. Sam Zenco created the mural which reflects the “dynamic energy” of the district, according to Sight Development.

"Her mural not only enhances the visual appeal of Canvas City Homes but also serves as a testament to the thriving arts culture that defines the neighborhood," Mincberg said.

Chase Moore, vice president of sales and marketing for Sight Development, said the project is a great addition to the neighborhood, which is on the cusp of a significant evolution. Earlier this month, the Development Review Commission approved a zoning change to create a Target Employment Center zoning overlay in the area, which essentially increases density and provides provisions to incentivize small-scale manufacturers and artisan uses.

Less than a mile away, the Tampa Bay Rays and Houston-based Hines may soon transform 86 acres into a mixed-use neighborhood surrounding a new $1.3 billion ballpark.

Sight Development has several other projects in Tampa Bay, including Coquina Cabanas in St. Petersburg and Canvas City Homes GWX, Shore House, and Views at North Hyde Park in Tampa.
