Construction has officially begun on the Strum Place Townhomes in west St. Petersburg.

St. Petersburg-based J Square Developers and Backstreets Capital said the townhomes are expected to be move-in ready by January 2025. The townhomes are named after the Strum family, one of the pioneering families of West St. Pete. They are under construction at the corner of Central Avenue and 64th Street.

“Our commitment to excellence ensures that we’re on track to deliver exceptional residences that reflect the distinct character of St. Petersburg,” Will Conroy with Backstreets Capital said in a release.

Jay Miller of J Square Developers said they are excited about the progress with the townhomes.

The group purchased the 0.84-acre property in December 2022 for $1.45 million, according to Pinellas County property records. There will be nine 2,040-square-foot townhome units in three buildings on the site. Each townhome will feature three bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms and a two-car garage.

The townhomes will also have private fenced yards. The units will each have great rooms on the second floor and an open living and dining area that features “collapsible sliding doors” leading to a private balcony.

The developers have secured two sales for the community. BSB Design is the project architect for Strum Place, and Space Interiors is the interior designer. Smith & Associates Real Estate is marketing the townhomes.

“The positive interest in Strum Place Townhomes underscores the demand for contemporary, high-quality residences in St. Petersburg,” Chris Pitre of Smith & Associates Real Estate said in a release. “This development is poised to redefine urban living on the West Central corridor, offering modern luxury in a vibrant and convenient setting.”

The project is part of the first new mixed-use development planned along the western portion of the SunRunner route. On top of the townhomes, the group is preserving the existing two-story home on the property. It was built in 1924 and totals approximately 4,800 square feet. It will be converted into office space.
