Lennar buys 80 acres in Pasco County for hundreds of new homes

A national homebuilder has purchased more land in Pasco County, where it plans to build hundreds of homes.

Miami-based Lennar Corp. paid $7.76 million for just under 82 acres in Land O'Lakes on State Road 52 east of the Ehren Cutoff. The property is near Three Pines Preserve, a hunting preserve. The builder is planning 210 homes on the site.

Lennar closed on the land on March 12, according to Pasco County property records. A spokesperson for Lennar did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.

Bill Eshenbaugh of Eshenbaugh Land Co. represented the seller, Kokolakis Contracting of Tarpon Springs, in the transaction.

The state Department of Transportation plans to widen State Road 52 between Ehren Cutoff and Bellamy Brothers Boulevard. That project is in the design phase, according to FDOT.

Pasco business and civic leaders are working to encourage industrial development in the county, which has long been a bedroom community for Tampa commuters. The county has also taken an aggressive stance against the Live Local Act, which is meant to spur more affordable housing in Florida.

Even with that focus, homebuilders and residential developers continue to pursue property in the county. Pulte Group recently purchased 200 acres in Spring Hill for one of its Del Webb-branded communities for adults older than 55.
