City Furniture to build $26 million showroom in Pasco County

City Furniture, a South Florida retailer that's been investing hundreds of millions of dollars in the Tampa Bay region, is moving forward with a showroom in Pasco County.

Miller Construction Co. applied for permits for a 144,372-square-foot City Furniture showroom in Cypress Creek Town Center at 25857 Sierra Center Blvd. City Furniture will be built on 8.92 acres north of Bahama Breeze. Gallo Herbert Architects of Deerfield Beach is the showroom architect, according to county building records.

Few retailers are building stores that are over 100,000 square feet in 2024. By comparison, an average Walmart Inc. Supercenter is about 182,000 square feet.

Initial construction costs for the showroom are listed at just over $26 million in county building records.

The Cypress Creek Town Center location is City Furniture's latest investment in the Tampa Bay region. The Tamarac-based retailer's plans for the Tampa area went public in 2020, when it closed on Plant City property that would become home to a $100 million distribution center and showroom.

CEO Andrew Koenig told the Tampa Bay Business Journal on Thursday that the Pasco County store as well as another in Sarasota should open in the second quarter of 2025. Its Largo store will open in March. He said the Plant City showroom has the highest traffic and revenue of any furniture store in the state.

"That’s the mother ship of Central Florida, just like we have our mother ship here in Tamarac," he said. "We built that building for the next 30-plus years."
