The Legacy at Jordan Park, a new 60-unit senior building in South St. Petersburg, has officially opened.

The St. Petersburg Housing Authority held a grand opening for the project, located at 2350 Ninth Ave. S, on Oct. 27. The ceremony also celebrated the completion of the surrounding renovated 206 Jordan Park family units.

“The Legacy at Jordan Park will provide 60 brand-new handicap-adaptable units to low-income seniors in need of affordable housing — a true legacy for the community,” SPHA President/CEO Michael Lundy said in a release.

The three-story garden apartment building represents “a modern and innovative living space that caters to the needs of senior residents,” according to a release. It was designed by Robert Reid Wedding Architects, developed by Norstar Development and constructed by NSBF LLC.

The project is a 62 and-up community and has 54 one-bedroom units and six two-bedroom units. Each unit has GE appliances and a washer and dryer.

Amenities include pickleball courts, a walking path, three community activity rooms, two community balconies, an exercise room, a game room and both indoor and outdoor bike storage.

The 206 Jordan Park family units also received upgrades including new kitchens, bathrooms, windows, flooring, enhanced safety features and energy-efficient improvements.

Jordan Park was the city’s first African-American public housing complex and was built between 1939 and 1941.

The 206 units are spread across 94 buildings. The clubhouse was also renovated. In the renovation, the community also received two new playgrounds with grills and a bike repair station, a renovated pavilion with new picnic tables and new LED lighting in the park.

"The redevelopment of Jordan Park has been a No. 1 priority, and we are thrilled to unveil this landmark addition to the community,” Commissioner James Dates, chairman of the SPHA Board of Commissioners, said in a release.
