Switzerland-based biomedical testing device company selects St. Pete for U.S. expansion

IMT Analytics Inc., a Swiss biomedical testing device company, has expanded its operations to the United States with a new sales and service center in St. Petersburg.

The company has leased a 2,400-square-foot space at the Baypoint Commerce Center, located at 9720 Executive Center Drive North. According to the county, the company was searching for a U.S. location that was in a time zone “as close as possible” to its Switzerland headquarters, had direct flights from Zurich and fostered a business climate suitable for a medical devices company.

“Florida boasts the second-largest medical device manufacturing industry in the U.S. and is ranked in the top five states for largest biotech R&D,” Brent Barkway, economic development manager with Pinellas County Economic Development, said in a release. “We knew we had the ideal location for IMT’s expansion needs.”

Daniel Benz, IMT managing director, said St. Petersburg is “the perfect fit” for the company. Benz worked with the PCED and the St. Petersburg Economic Development Corp. to find a location.

“We introduced IMT to the city of St. Petersburg so Daniel could learn about programs like grants for job creation and talent attraction,” St. Pete EDC Vice President of Marketing and Communications Anne Core said in a release. “Working with our partners at PCED, we helped Daniel and IMT explore the benefits of starting a new business venture in Florida.”

The sales and service center in St. Pete will have a calibration laboratory offering domestic calibration and repair services for its products. Benz said the location will help the support for its U.S. distributors and end users be “better than ever.”

Baypoint Commerce Center is a 15-building campus with more than 700,000 square feet of office space. It underwent an extensive multimillion-dollar renovation and modernization project, according to its website.

PCED Director Cynthia Johnson said her team worked “tirelessly” with partner organizations like the St. Pete EDC to “foster a collaborative approach to business recruitment.”

“Pinellas County offers an excellent and unique blend of robust biomedical industry, substantial infrastructure, and superb quality of life, and it’s very fulfilling to see a trailblazing innovator like IMT Analytics select our location as the best fit for its U.S. expansion,” Johnson said in a release.
