Florida Southern College to break ground on golf clubhouse

The golf program at Florida Southern College in Lakeland is getting an upgrade.

The college said Tuesday that it will break ground this week on a state-of-the-art, 4,000-square-foot golf clubhouse at Lone Palm Golf Club, a private club in Lakeland. The new clubhouse will include display space for the "33 titles earned between the men's and women's golf programs, pro-style locker rooms, offices for each coach, two TrackMan hitting simulators, a putt view studio, fitness and rehabilitation area, meeting space and a student-athlete lounge," the college said.

"We believe it will not only enhance their performance but also contribute to the pride of our entire college community as we celebrate the achievements of our exceptional golf programs," Dr. Ann Kerr, Florida Southern president, said in a statement.

The new facility will open in fall 2024.

"[Publix Super Markets Inc. founder] Mr. George Jenkins was instrumental in the origins of the golf teams and FSC's success," Wayne Raath, general manager of Lone Palm, said about the golf clubhouse. "To now see this project come to fruition at Lone Palm, the course that he built, adds a special significance."
