New mansion to replace Derek Jeter's former estate on Davis Islands

A mansion billed as “ecologically innovative” will rise on the Tampa property once owned by baseball legend Derek Jeter.

Jeter sold the 22,000-square-foot mansion on the Davis Islands waterfront for $22.5 million to a private trust in 2021. The Jeter home was built in 2011; when NFL star Tom Brady moved to the city in 2020 to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he rented the house from Jeter.

The new home is being custom-built for a Tampa family whose identity has not been disclosed.

The new home will be 30,000 square feet, equivalent to an average Sprouts Farmers Market or three Ulta Beauty stores. It will feature a “balanced blend of European style and modern aesthetics,” according to Ellison Construction, the general contractor on the project.

Landry Design Group is the architect; Annette English is the interior designer. Construction is expected to take three years.

The home will have six bedrooms, nine full bathrooms, 11 half bathrooms, a gym and a swimming pool. Green space is a major focus, and the redevelopment will convert one-third of the current property into open, landscaped areas.

Sustainability features will include “rainwater harvesting, maximizing daylight and an extremely efficient chilled water air conditioning system.”

Construction crews will remove anything that can be preserved from the home before demolition — cabinets, appliances, furniture, lighting — and donate it to Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County. The items will be sold at Habitat’s ReStore locations. ReStores are nonprofit, home improvement retail locations run by Habitat.
