Hillsborough County Public Schools buys 50 acres in Plant City

Hillsborough County Public Schools has made a big land buy in Plant City.

The school district paid $16 million for 50.4 acres in North Park Isles, a residential community developed by Tampa-based Eisenhower Property Group. EPG sold the land to the school district.

The sale closed on Aug. 10, according to county property records. The acreage is at East Sam Allen and North Park roads, according to property records.

A spokesperson for the school district said that there are no plans for the property yet, but the purchase is about "ensuring we have land for future school builds based on the large growth around Plant City."

School board members unanimously approved the purchase at a June 20 meeting.

Earlier this year, the school district bought a former Kane's Furniture store in Tampa to use for storage.
