Datz owners acknowledge South Tampa closure

Datz will close its South Tampa location on Aug. 27.

The Tampa Bay Business Journal reported on July 20 that the real estate occupied by Datz and sister bakery Dough had been sold to a local development group. Dough has already closed, according to a statement Datz owners Roger and Suzanne Perry issued Thursday.

Datz opened at South Macdill Avenue and West Barcelona Street in 2009. Locations in Riverview and St. Petersburg will remain open and under the Perrys' ownership.

"We will miss South Tampa greatly, but we hope we were able to bring some out-of-the-box ideas to the local food scene and make eating fun," the Perrys said.

Some staff members from the South Tampa location will move to Riverview and St. Petersburg restaurants "if possible," the Perrys said.

The new ownership is seeking a rezoning approval to turn the Dough space into an accessory building to complement a new restaurant planned for the Datz space.
