Ocean Prime is coming to Sarasota

Ocean Prime, which has had a Tampa presence for over a decade, has signed a deal to open a restaurant in Sarasota.

Ohio-based Cameron Mitchell Restaurants said Tuesday that it will open Ocean Prime at The Quay, a mixed-use waterfront district near downtown Sarasota, in late 2024. The restaurant has signed a lease for a two-story, 9,500-square-foot location with over 350 seats, two bars and two private dining rooms. Each floor will have an outdoor terrace.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Quay’s developer is Jacksonville-based GreenPointe Holdings LLC. Cameron Mitchell, CEO of his eponymous restaurant group, previously told the Tampa Bay Business Journal that the post-Covid restaurant development environment has been a boon to his company.

“Sarasota is close to my heart — and where I have vacationed with my family for nearly 20 years,” Mitchell said in a statement. “With our exceptional menu, vibrant atmosphere, and dedication to genuine hospitality, this location promises to be a premier dining destination for both residents and visitors of Sarasota.”

Ocean Prime is known for its steak and seafood selections as well as its cocktail menu.

Mitchell opened The Pearl in Water Street Tampa earlier this year. Both Water Street and The Quay are anomalies for the company; Mitchell said previously that he typically shies away from brand-new developments. The Quay, in Sarasota’s Arts and Culture district, spans 15 acres and includes condominiums and upscale retail and dining.

“It was a natural choice to bring Ocean Prime’s award-winning elevated experience to Quay Sarasota’s scenic waterfront setting, and we know it will enhance the experiences of those who live, work and play here,” Grady Miars, president of GreenPointe Developers LLC, said in a statement. “With a reputation for innovation and vision, it is our pleasure to create this remarkable waterfront destination and enrich the city’s vibrant Arts and Culture district.”
