Aldi files plans for South Tampa store in former Barnes & Noble

German discount grocer Aldi is moving forward with plans to renovate a former Barnes & Noble in South Tampa.

Aldi has filed plans with the city to renovate the 21,487-square-foot store in the 200 block of North Dale Mabry Highway. City building records peg construction costs at $2 million.

A spokesperson for Aldi was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.

APD Engineering and Architecture of New York filed the plans on behalf of the grocer.

While Aldi has locations throughout the Tampa Bay region, South Tampa has been an elusive market for the grocer. Its move into the Barnes & Noble space has been rumored for months. Barnes & Noble moved to a new store in the Westshore business district.
