RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Hillsborough County schools buys old furniture store in Tampa The school district has purchased the 57,770-square-foot building at 5630 E. Hillsborough Ave., according to county property records. The sale closed March 31, records show.
It was built in 1963.
The seller was Kane's Furniture, which bought the property in 2022, according to property records. Kane's paid $3.74 million for the property.
A spokesperson for the school district confirmed the acquisition to the Tampa Bay Business Journal and said the district will use the space to store items such as "instructional materials, furniture for classrooms, equipment for repairs." It is located near warehouses the district already owns, the spokesperson said.
Kane's real estate in the Tampa Bay region has been sought after by investors and developers. In Pinellas County, a former Kane's liquidation center has been redeveloped into a new service facility and showroom for Tesla.
