Hillsborough cracks down on short-term vacation rentals

Hillsborough County is cracking down on short-term vacation rentals in an effort to ensure the properties do not disturb neighbors.

Last week, commissioners passed a new law for short-term rentals, including Vrbo and Airbnb units, in unincorporated areas of the county. The law was prompted by a sustained outcry from residents who claim that the rentals are both a disturbance and a violation of basic trash, parking and noise rules. The ordinance will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2027.
