The original developer of a waterfront resort on Sand Key is planning to build a second hotel on the site.

Ohio-based Cedarwood Cos., which built the Clearwater Beach Marriott Resort on Sand Key in 1986, is eyeing an expansion with plans for a 200-key, 10-story hotel on its existing hotel’s parking lot at 1201 Gulf Blvd. The expansion comes as Pinellas County beaches experience a wave of proposed development following recovery from the 2024 back-to-back hurricanes.
