As Cleveland Street leasing activity ramps up, Clearwater officials have questions

Long-awaited momentum in downtown Clearwater is now underway, but Clearwater’s elected officials are skeptical of whether the development will yield a vibrant streetscape.

Clearwater City Council held a special work session Thursday evening to discuss the ongoing development on Cleveland Street in downtown led by the Cleveland Street Alliance — a coalition of the Church of Scientology, its parishioners and urban development professionals. Council members and Mayor Bruce Rector were most concerned with the tenants that will occupy these developments and the involvement of the multiple entities tied to the church.
