St. Petersburg to close on CSX rail corridor, lease sections to Ferg's Sports Bar

The city of St. Petersburg is set to purchase a long-desired stretch of the CSX rail line and lease portions of it to a local business to create an urban trail.

The city published a notice of intent, stating it plans to acquire a segment of rail corridor from CSX Transportation for a public trail. Two pieces of that corridor, from First Avenue North to Central Avenue and Central Avenue to First Avenue South, are being considered for ground leases to Ferg’s Sports Bar & Grill. Originally, Ellison Development, which is redeveloping the former St. Pete police headquarters across from Ferg’s, was supposed to lease one of the segments.
