More than 1,000 apartments to break ground on former Raytheon site in May

A Clearwater-based developer plans to break ground on over 1,000 apartments in May 2026 on St. Petersburg property previously part of the Raytheon Technologies campus.

The Azalea Gateway Apartments received approval from the city of St. Pete on a sitework permit Dec. 18, which allows site preparation for the 1,056 apartments off the Pinellas Trail at 1501 72nd St. N to begin. The multifamily project is slated to be built in three phases, with the first phase consisting of 340 units. Of those, 51 will be dedicated to households earning 50% of the area’s median income and another 51 for those earning up to 120% AMI.
