Former lumber yard site in St. Pete moves forward as affordable housing complex

More than three years after plans for an affordable housing project in St. Petersburg’s Warehouse Arts District were pitched, the development is ready to break ground.

The development was first proposed and approved in April 2022 and touted as the first project to take advantage of a new policy allowing residential units to be built on sites not zoned for housing. Now, the Pinellas County Housing Finance Authority has closed on the three parcels for $6.2 million, according to Pinellas records, and the city of St. Pete issued four new construction permits totaling $50.6 million last week. The project will bring 264 units to an older lumber yard at 3300 Fairfield Ave. S.
