Publix opens Lakeland store modeled after viral prototype

Publix Super Markets Inc. has reopened its Lake Miriam store in Lakeland as one of its fanciest prototypes.

The Lakeland-based grocer reopened the store at 4730 S. Florida Ave. on Thursday after tearing down a nearly 50-year-old store to build a new one in its place. It is 55,701 square feet, which makes it one of the largest stores in the chain: Publix prototypes run from just under 30,000 square feet to 60,000 square feet.
