Long-watched Kirkland Ranch property in Pasco County will be preserved

The Southwest Florida Water Management District plans to purchase a 974-acre ranch in Wesley Chapel to prevent development and protect the region’s water supply.

The SFWMD governing board approved the $30.8 million purchase of Kirkland Ranch on Aug. 26. The Kirkland family has owned the ranch since 1956 and has primarily used it for cattle grazing and tree farming.
