St. Pete approves a new historic district, but a legal battle looms

A portion of St. Petersburg’s Mirror Lake neighborhood has been designated a local historic district, capping a monthslong controversial process that began with a citizen-led referendum.

St. Pete City Council last week voted 5-2 to approve the local historic district. It also voted 6-1 to remove the Sunshine Center, a city-owned building at 330 Fifth St N. that city officials would like to see redeveloped, from the district.
