RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Tarpon Springs affordable housing project to rise on former nursery The Pinellas County Housing Authority officially acquired the Mills property in August, according to a release. In partnership with St. Petersburg-based HP Capital Group, the housing authority plans to build 78 workforce units at 1800 South Pinellas Ave.
Plans for the project have been in the works for years. Pinellas County commissioners first gave their stamp of approval for zoning changes in 2014, according to the Tampa Bay Times. John and Bonnie Mills — the owners of the plant nursery — were still seeking a developer at that time. It eventually sold the site for $1.2 million.
Waterfall Bank is financing the project.
"The Mills property will not only provide affordable housing options but will also contribute to the vibrancy and strength of the community," said Neil Brickfield, executive director of PCHA. |
