RETURN TO NEWS INDEX St. Pete shipyard changes hands in Clearwater firm's latest transaction Prometheus Maritime Properties LLC purchased 3.49 acres at 101 16th Ave. S for $12.5 million from Catalina Investments LLC, according to a Pinellas County deed filed Monday.
The company, linked to Clearwater-based Southeast Investment Property Holdings, didn't respond to a request for comment. It also purchased a nearby shipyard at 1421 Bay St. SE for $10 million in April and another one in March for $4.8 million.
In total, it owns about 6.75 acres of land along Salt Creek, interrupted by about 4 acres owned by 4th Street South LLC.
It's unclear if a redevelopment is in the cards, though the waterfront assemblage offers promise. Properties bordering Salt Creek have been slated for a massive mixed-use project before, with Miami-based Royal Palm Communities pitching a master-planned community consisting of 60 separate lots.
The properties that Prometheus acquired are in the coastal high-hazard area. St. Petersburg Innovation District Executive Director Alison Barlow said the district's ongoing master plan work will convene property owners, business owners, government officials and concerned citizens to discuss the future of the maritime area.
"Hopefully, that will inform property owners as they move forward, " Barlow said.
The building on the site that Prometheus purchased this week spans 22,870 square feet and was built in 1973, according to Pinellas County property records.
Several boating companies are located on the parcel, including Elite Marine Specialist, Hold Fast Rigging, Lippincott Marine Canvas and Gulf Coast Yacht Sales. |
