Raising Cane's to open first St. Pete location

A Louisiana fried chicken restaurant with a cult following is opening its first St. Petersburg restaurant at Tyrone Square Mall.

Raising Cane’s has filed a permit with the city to open a restaurant at 6901 22nd Ave. N. Documents show it will be built in the northwest corner of Tyrone Boulevard North, directly adjacent to Tire's Plus on property owned by Macy's. Macy's could not be immediately reached for comment.

A spokesperson for Raising Cane’s told the Tampa Bay Business Journal the company has signed a lease at the location and construction is scheduled to begin in December. They aim to have doors open in early fall 2025.

This will be the third Tampa Bay location for the fried chicken chain, which has two locations in Clearwater — one on Gulf to Bay Boulevard and another at 4835 East Bay Drive.

According to the Raising Cane’s website, the company is hiring a general manager for the St. Pete location.

The site plan shows the building will be 2,728 square feet and will feature a drive-thru, 31 parking spaces and three mobile curbside pickup parking spaces. There will also be a patio with outdoor seating and a bicycle rack.

Raising Cane’s was founded in 1996 and is known for its chicken fingers, signature Cane’s Sauce and its Texas toast. The chicken tenders are usually served in baskets with fries and coleslaw.
