'Beach-elegant vibe': North Redington hotel unveils renovation

The DoubleTree Beach Resort in North Redington Beach has completed an extensive renovation that upgraded its amenities, public spaces, guestrooms and façade.

South Carolina-based OTO Development, part of The Johnson Group, purchased the resort in summer 2022 and has spent the last several months giving the hotel and restaurant at the site a “floor-to-ceiling uplift.”

“We’re kicking off the season with a fresh new look,” General Manager Mike Hook said in a release. “Guests will love the beach-elegant vibe, the resort amenities and, as ever, our ideal position just 150 feet from the Gulf of Mexico.”

The seven-story hotel at 17120 Gulf Blvd. has 125 rooms, many of which have balconies overlooking the Gulf of Mexico or Boca Ciega Bay. The hotel was built in 1987 and is less than 10 minutes from John’s Pass Village.

The renovations include a new fitness center, upgraded meeting space with ocean views and a resurfaced pool deck. There is also new beach-inspired artwork throughout the hotel, custom tile flooring and shiplap paneling. Guest rooms include updated furnishings and remodeled bathrooms.

The former Mangos Restaurant and Tiki Bar has been rebranded as Coconut Charlie’s Beach Bar & Grill. This is the fourth location of Coconut Charlie’s, an original OTO Development concept. The original location is at the Hilton Garden Inn on St. Pete Beach and it has since expanded to Hyatt Place in Panama City Beach and Homewood Suites in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The restaurant features casual bites at the beach bar and a more extensive menu at the grill. The menu features handcrafted cocktails, local brews and boozy slushies. The restaurant will offer indoor and outdoor seating on the large veranda overlooking the gulf.

The renovation team also includes Pond & Co. as the architect and interior designer, Continental Contractors as the interior general contractor and Valcourt Building Services as the exterior general contractor.

“DoubleTree Beach Resort’s on-the-Gulf location already made it the most desirable hotel in the area,” Hook said. “With the completion of this fantastic renovation and the launch of Coconut Charlie’s, we can elevate the guest experience even more.”
