Tampa General Hospital will expand to Babcock Ranch with plans to open an urgent care center in the Southwest Florida master-planned community.

TGH on Thursday announced the new urgent care center, which will be 6,500 square feet. It will sit at the community’s main entrance in The Shoppes at Yellow Pine on Cypress Parkway.

TGH billed the deal as a partnership with Kitson & Partners, the master developer of Babcock Ranch. The community spans 18,000 acres across southeastern Charlotte and northeastern Lee counties; at full buildout, it will have 19,500 residences and 6 million square feet of commercial space.

“Health and wellness is an integral part of Babcock Ranch, so this expansion of health care offerings will now give our residents access to best-in-class care,” Tom Hoban, president and chief investment officer of Kitson & Partners, said in a statement. “In addition to the Lee Memorial Physician Group and WellWay services available in Founder’s Square, there will be a robust care team available to meet all the needs of our growing community, including preventative, routine and urgent care. We know access to quality care is critically important, and the TGH partnership will undoubtedly deliver that to our residents.”

The urgent care facility, TGH said, is the first step in the partnership.

Of the urgent care facility’s 6,500 square feet, 2,500 will be dedicated to community health care services. TGH will offer “navigation to facilitate appointments” and will “respond to specific care needs and help access community resources and support,” the hospital said in a news release.

“This agreement represents a partnership between two visionary organizations that are committed to leveraging technology and innovation to better care for our communities,” Stacey Brandt, TGH executive vice president and chief administrative officer, said in a statement. “Soon, residents of Babcock Ranch will have access to the world-class care we offer at TGH, rooted in technology and innovation just like their state-of-the-art community.”
