RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Aldi will backfill Hitchcock's Green Market space at Tyrone Square Mall in St. Pete Mark Sneed, senior vice president at SRS Real Estate Partners in Tampa, said the grocer signed a lease for the 29,000-square-foot space in late 2022. Sneed represented Seritage Growth Properties, which owns the Dick's Sporting Goods-anchored wing of the mall, at the time Aldi signed its lease.
A spokesman for Aldi said he had no information to share regarding potential stores in Tampa or St. Petersburg. Aldi is also rumored to be redeveloping the former Barnes & Noble site in South Tampa and held a pre-application meeting with Tampa officials in February 2022, according to building records. A conceptual site plan filed with the city shows Aldi planned to convert the 20,960-square-foot bookstore into a grocery store.
The former Hitchcock's space is larger than most Aldi stores; its typical footprint is between 18,000 and 20,000 square feet.
Aldi is the third grocer to take a shot at Tyrone Square Mall. Seritage demolished the Sears wing of the mall and built the current configuration of retail on the property. The other tenants include Petco and Five Below.
When the Seritage redevelopment opened in 2018, Lucky's Market was its grocer tenant. Lucky's shuttered most of its Florida stores after grocery giant Kroger Co. divested its interest in the boutique grocery in late 2019, and Lucky's closed its stores in early 2020. Hitchcock's opened there in summer 2020 and closed in summer 2022. |
