Jeff Vinik buys $8 million penthouse in Tampa Edition

Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik has purchased the top-floor penthouse at the Tampa Edition for $8.34 million.

The 6,887-square-foot condo spans the entire 26th floor and has a large outdoor terrace. According to a Hillsborough County deed, the sale closed on Jan. 30. The sale price breaks down to approximately $1,211 per square foot.

David Moyer, director of sales for Smith & Associates Real Estate, said this is the most expensive condominium sold in the Tampa Bay market.

The Tampa Edition, located at 100 Water Street, has 172 boutique hotel rooms and 38 Edition brand condos. All the condos have been sold since April 2022.

Tampa Edition is a boutique flag that is owned by Marriott International Inc. The mixed-use tower is part of Water Street Tampa — a more than $3 billion district developed by Strategic Property Partners, which is led by Vinik and Cascade Investment LLC.

The hotel rooms run from floors three through eight at the Tampa Edition, and condos are on floors 10 through 26. The Tampa Edition hotel was designed by Morris Adjmi Architects.

Amenities include a rooftop pool and terrace, spa, gym and 24/7 concierge and valet service.

In July 2022, NBA executive Bill Koenig and Foiye founder and CEO Melinda Witmer closed on a 5,000-square-foot condo in the tower. The couple paid nearly $8 million for the unit, setting a record in Tampa Bay. The price per square foot was $1,600. Maurice Harkless, who plays for the Atlanta Hawks, purchased a $3.9 million condo in Tampa Edition in June 2022.
