RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Groundbreaking for Gas Worx in Ybor City set for March The 50-acre Gas Worx project is a joint venture between Tampa developer Darryl Shaw and Washington, D.C.-based Kettler. The development will have nearly 5,000 residences, more than 500,000 square feet of office space and more than 140,000 square feet of retail.
The first 317-unit apartment development is scheduled to be complete in 2024. In October, the developers secured a $67.4 million construction loan from Valley National Bank for the apartments, according to Hillsborough County property records.
“The positive response Gas Worx has had from the Ybor City neighborhood and community leadership has been astounding,” Shaw said in a release. “This first phase embodies a central goal of Gas Worx — to bring more people to live and work in Ybor — and I am excited to see the progress get underway.”
Kettler Senior Vice President Graham Tyrrell said the development will complement and honor Ybor City’s character and rich history and connect the surrounding neighborhoods.
“When completed, Gas Worx will be one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Tampa, with priority given to pedestrians and bike traffic while adding needed greenspace in the city’s urban core,” Tyrrell said. |
