Dr. Kiran Patel's palatial Carrollwood compound, under construction for a decade, finally nears completion

The largest residential structure in Hillsborough County — known for its decade-long construction process and pink Indian sandstone walls — is finally nearing completion.

Tampa physicians and philanthropists Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel, who broke ground on Surya Estates in March 2013, recently transferred ownership of three of the homes on the 17-acre site to each of their children: Dr. Sheetal K. Patel, Parita Patel and Dr. Sonali K. Judd and her husband, Scott. The sales price of each home was listed at $5 million in Hillsborough County property records.

The compound is about three blocks from the intersection of North Dale Mabry Highway and Linebaugh Avenue. Rojo Architecture LLC worked with the Patels on the design; as of 2020, it was on at least its third general contractor, Voeller Construction.

Kiran Patel told the Tampa Bay Business Journal on Tuesday that his children are "moving in gradually" and that his home should be complete by March.

Surya Estates includes a 15,376-square-foot main hall — a gathering and entertaining area, which will have its own kitchen — flanked by two single-family homes, 8,695 square feet and 8,455 square feet each, as well as two detached single-family homes.

Patel paid $3.2 million for the site in 2003.
