RETURN TO NEWS INDEX 33-story mixed-use tower proposed for downtown St. Pete The approximately $96 million project is planned for a 0.88-acre site at 235 Third St. S. The tower will include 268 residential units and 15,525 square feet of commercial space. There is currently a three-story office building and a surface parking lot on the site that will be demolished for the project.
The ground floor of the proposed 375-foot tower will have commercial space, a residential lobby, a loading area and back-of-house facilities.
Floors two through eight will have parking and residential units. The parking garage will be accessed from Fourth Street S, and the proposal shows plans to build 323 parking spaces. The ninth through 33rd floors will have residential units. According to city documents, approximately 80 units will be less than 750 square feet.
St. Pete-based Echelon plans a contemporary exterior with floor-to-ceiling glass, wrap-around balconies and awnings. The roof will have a “distinctive crown element,” according to the proposal. The project will also add 10-foot-wide sidewalks, street trees, landscaping and bicycle parking.
City council, meeting as the Community Redevelopment Agency, will review whether the project is consistent with the Intown Redevelopment Plan on Nov. 3. The IRP covers more than 309 acres and was adopted in March 1982. According to the city, it “provides mechanisms and programs for coordinating and facilitating public and private improvements to encourage revitalization.”
Other multistory residential buildings in the area include a 24-story building at 334 Second Ave. S and a nine-story multifamily development at 201 Fourth St. S. |
