A 20-story apartment tower in downtown St. Petersburg has been approved by the city’s Development Review Commission.

The DRC on Wednesday unanimously approved plans for DevMar Development’s 246-unit Sky St. Pete. The tower will be built on 0.73 acres at the corner of 17th Street North and Burlington Avenue North, near DevMar’s Vantage St. Pete apartments. This will be the developer’s third project in St. Petersburg.

Fifteen stories of apartments will be stacked atop a five-story podium that includes a parking deck, lobby and coworking space. Amenities include a pool, splash deck, spa and grills, bike storage and a sky lounge. There will be indoor and outdoor amenities on the sixth and 20th floors.

The residential homes currently on the property will be demolished for the project.

Mark DeMaria, CEO of DevMar, previously told the Tampa Bay Business Journal the apartments will include 86 studios, 103 one-bedroom and 57 two-bedroom units. The garage will be accessible from 17th Street North.

The ground floor will have a commercial-looking façade, and the building will be just over 200 feet tall. Several members of the DRC mentioned there are multiple other developments in the area of similar height.

DevMar is under construction on The Metro, a seven-story, 100-unit residential development at First Avenue North and 11th Street North. It is anticipated to open in early 2023.
