RETURN TO NEWS INDEX General contractor chosen to build apartments on site of former Skyway Marina Mall The mixed-use development will be approximately 610,000 square feet and will include 400 units along with ground floor retail space. The project overlooks Boca Ciega Bay and will have amenities like a sky lounge, pool deck with a grilling area, a dog park and a fitness center.
It will replace the Skyway Marina Mall, which closed earlier this year and had been in operation since the late 1970s. Developer Allied Group Holdings purchased the property in early 2022.
Marina Club Apartments will feature one- and two-bedroom units ranging from 500 to 1,200 square feet. It will also have a 290,000-square-foot, two-story parking garage.
The development is slated to be complete by December 2024. It is designed by Architectonics Studio Inc.
“The rise of mixed-use developments has gained a foothold over the last decade as demand for communities with live-work-play environments has grown,” Michael C. Brown, executive vice president and general manager of Skanska Florida, said in a release. “As a builder active in St. Petersburg for decades, our team is thrilled to bring to life Marina Club Apartments, which will set a new standard for multifamily development in the area and further enhance the waterfront community.”
Skanska has been involved in other projects locally including the St. Petersburg Municipal Pier and Pier Approach and the University of South Florida Research Park Mixed Use Lab and Office project. The company is also building the 26-acre waterfront park for Imagine Clearwater and the campus replacement at the Dorothy Thomas Exceptional Center in Tampa. Skanska is currently building more than a dozen projects throughout Florida. |
