St. Petersburg City Council has taken the next step in approvals for DevMar Development’s plans to build a 20-story residential tower on Burlington Avenue N.

The council, meeting as the Community Redevelopment Agency, unanimously found the 246-unit tower consistent with the Intown West Redevelopment Plan. Plans show the developer intends to build the tower and a 241-space parking garage on the site. The project will go to the Development Review Commission for a public hearing on Sept. 7.

The $59 million project — Sky St. Pete — is located at 1624, 1642, 1650 and 1662 Burlington Ave. N. It is several blocks north of Tropicana Field and four blocks from Central Avenue. Currently, the site has a vacant dirt lot and seven residential structures with eight dwelling units, which will be demolished to make way for the new tower.

The ground floor of the building will have bike storage, a leasing office, a residential lobby, back-of-house facilities, conference space and an entrance to the parking garage. The parking garage will be accessible from an entrance on 17th Street N. Floors two through five will be parking. Floors six and seven will be a mix of apartments and an indoor-outdoor amenity space. Floors eight to 19 will be apartments, and the 20th floor will have both apartments and another indoor-outdoor amenity space.

DevMar is planning to have amenities like a coworking center, bike and resident storage, rooftop pool and deck on the sixth-floor rooftop, a fitness center and bathhouse, an outdoor kitchen and a Sky Lounge on the 20th floor to overlook the Edge district and downtown St. Pete.

According to city documents, the developer plans to “beautify the space and extend the charm of the overall existing character of the downtown community into this corner of the district.” Documents show the building will have exterior artwork, and the developer intends to have pieces from local artists installed.

Fusco Shaffer & Pappas is the architect, and Booth Design Group is the landscape architect.

DevMar’s 11-story Vantage St. Pete apartments are one block from this site. The developer is also behind The Metro, bringing 100 apartments to the Edge district.
