A Dallas developer wants to tear down the aging Ramada hotel in Tampa's Westshore business district and replace it with a six-story mixed-use project.

An entity linked to Trammell Crow is asking the city to rezone the 4.28 acres at 1200 Westshore Blvd. to make way for Alexan Westshore, which will have 388 multifamily units and 9,355 square feet of retail space. The development will also include a seven-story, 693-space parking structure.

An affiliate of Cardinal Point Management bought the hotel in late 2021 for $18.9 million, according to Hillsborough County property records. Ben Mallah was the seller. Preston Reid, managing director at the Tampa office of Berkadia, represented the seller. The hotel was built in 1973.

Tampa City Council is tentatively set to hold a public hearing on the rezoning request on Oct. 6.

Alexan Westshore is the second large residential project proposed in the business district this year. A 14-story tower is also proposed on the former AAA site at 1515 N. Westshore Blvd. That project will include 360 apartments and a 7,000-square-foot street-level restaurant.
