Health tech company expands downtown Tampa HQ

A Tampa-based health tech company is doubling down on downtown Tampa.

BeniComp, which previously had an office in WeWork's downtown location, has moved into a 3,000-square-foot office in Tampa City Center, the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council said. The company plans to add 100 positions by 2025, according to the EDC.

Steve Presser, BeniComp president, says the Tampa City Center location is a new post-pandemic office. It's about 50% larger than BeniComp's WeWork space.

BeniComp's new jobs will include client support, sales and marketing, software development, preventive health and accounting.

A 3,000-square-foot office lease is small in the Tampa Bay market by pre-pandemic standards — but in the wake of the pandemic, many employers are re-evaluating their spaces as they consider hybrid models in which employees split their time between an office and remote locations.

“We saw significant growth in sales during Covid and a need for additional staff. Knowing that we would soon return to the office, we kept our focus on hiring to the Tampa area,” Steve Presser, president of BeniComp, said in a statement. “As we continue to grow quickly, it’s more important now than ever to sustain one cohesive culture. That’s something that can really only be done by having our employees meet and collaborate on a regular basis.”

The EDC said it has assisted BeniComp "with connections to local universities for internship opportunities and workforce partners for training grant programs."

“Health tech is an emerging sector across the country and continues to be a focus for the Tampa Bay EDC. Fast-growing health tech companies are finding the diverse talent they need in Tampa thanks to our well-established health care and IT industries as well as our world-class educational partners," James Nozar, EDC chairman, said in a statement.
