Clearwater apartments sell for nearly $67 million

Miami Beach-based investment firm Starwood Capital Group has purchased The Sands at Clearwater, a 240-unit apartment complex, for $66.9 million.

A corporate entity connected to Starwood Capital closed on the property on Aug. 8, according to a deed filed in Pinellas County. The sale price breaks down to $278,750 a key. Documents show the same entity also secured a loan from Walker and Dunlop LLC for $14.36 million.

Starwood Capital Group could not be reached for comment Monday.

The Sands at Clearwater, located at 2168 Druid Road, was built in 2014 and its buildings are three stories tall. The complex features one-to-three-bedroom apartments that range from 644 square feet to 1,305 square feet. Located near the Grovewood and University Park neighborhoods, the complex is one block away from Gulf to Bay Boulevard.
