RETURN TO NEWS INDEX Site of the former Redington Long Pier is back on the market The 0.77-acre property at 17490 Gulf Blvd. is zoned for recreation/parkland and thus would need to have both the land use and the zoning changed if the buyer wishes to develop the property for anything outside of recreational or park space. The land is currently a parking lot, and it has direct access to Redington Shores Beach and the Gulf of Mexico.
Nancy Surak, a managing broker for the Land Advisors Organization in Tampa, is representing the seller. The site has been listed for $6.5 million.
This isn’t the first time the owner has considered selling. In 2018, the site was listed for sale prior to the closed pier being demolished. At that point in time, the pier would have needed $300,000 to $500,000 in repairs.
The current owner sued the town government in 2019 over their refusal to change the land-use designation on the site. The lawsuit was settled out of court in 2020. In spring 2020, the dilapidated pier was demolished.
“We’ve owned this property for over 20 years, and it’s time to move on and allow a new owner the opportunity to start fresh,” a representative from the property's ownership said. “Beachfront property in Florida is in high demand since the pandemic, and we believe a great buyer will come forward with innovative ideas that the town will love, and that’s simply what we want. A project our community can rally behind, and that will make us all proud.”
The property is in the Coastal Floodplain Zone AE. Under the current zoning, things like a public park, parking, miniature golf, shuffleboard, swimming clubs and accessory uses and structures are permitted. If a multifamily developer wants to pursue the site, they need to seek approval from the Town of Redington Shores.
The tract is surrounded by a medium and high-density multiresidential district. Sea Oats Beach Resort, Anglers Cove Rentals, The Club Redington Condo, Tower Isle Condominium, Hotel Sol and Grand Shores West all lie on surrounding parcels. |
