RETURN TO NEWS INDEX 23-story apartment tower by Trop clears first hurdle in path toward development The Community Redevelopment Agency met Thursday to determine whether the proposal is consistent with the Intown West Redevelopment Plan. The CRA members unanimously agreed it was, so now the Development Review Commission will hear the site plan application on May 4.
The apartment tower is proposed for 0.77 acres at 155 17th St. S and will have 204 residential units, 6,000 square feet of commercial space and a 300-space parking garage. That’s broken down into 4,600 square feet of retail and a 1,400 square foot café. This is estimated to be a $49 million project and will be developed by Apogee Real Estate Partners, led by John Stadler and John Barkett.
The tower will be 299 feet tall. The design is for there to be a five-story podium comprised of a parking garage, lobby, utility space and retail spaces. An 18-story tower with apartments will sit on top of the podium. The 23rd floor will include indoor and outdoor amenities and there is a roof terrace with a swimming pool. This development will have its retail front onto the Pinellas Trail “with the goal of activating this portion of the trail as a gateway into downtown from the West,” according to the filed plans.
As an homage to the neighboring Warehouse Arts District the developer is going to design the base in the traditional urban brick industrial style. The top of the tower will feature a slanted, butterfly-style roofline. |
