Asher, an apartment tower in Water Street Tampa, has opened to residents.

Of the 490 units in the tower at 1050 Water St., 393 are operating as apartments under the Asher name. The remaining 97 units will be extended-stay hotel rooms under the Roost flag; those are slated to open later this summer, developer Strategic Property Partners said Tuesday.

SPP, controlled by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates’ Cascade Investment LLC, said the tower saw a “highly successful pre-leasing period.”

Rent for a 562-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment in Asher starts at $2,145 per month. A 386-square-foot studio apartment starts at $2,070 per month.

“Asher represents a new approach to urban living in Tampa, with world-class design, unmatched amenities and a location in the heart of downtown,” Lee Schaffler, SPP chief portfolio officer, said in a statement. “We received strong interest in Asher during our pre-leasing phase and are excited to welcome our first residents to the building.”

Method Co., a hospitality operator, will manage the Roost units and service the building’s amenities, including a 24-hour concierge, SPP said. ZRS Management oversees the apartment units.

The tower will also be home to the first Florida location of Wagamama, an Asian-inspired restaurant. It’s slated to open on the tower’s street level.
