RETURN TO NEWS INDEX La Segunda Bakery & Café opening its doors in St. Pete The family-owned business is holding its grand opening for its third location — and first in Pinellas County — on March 21 at 2436 4th St. N in Holiday Plaza. The 1,820-square foot café will have indoor seating for approximately 40 people as well as an outdoor, pet-friendly patio that will hold 28 seats.
“We really love this area of St. Petersburg,” Copeland More, fourth-generation owner, said in a release. “It has a great mix of residential and office space, and it’s also very walkable. We can’t wait to bring a slice of Ybor City to the Sunshine City and greet our new neighbors with the smell of fresh-baked Cuban bread. We often have visitors from St. Petersburg at our two Tampa locations, so we’re very excited to continue our expansion efforts across the Bay.”
The St. Petersburg café will focus on grab-and-go orders, according to the release, as well as delivery and catering. The company has been in business for 107 years and is known for its authentic homemade recipes, including Cuban sandwiches, salads, café con leche, guava and cheese turnovers, flan, quesitos and other baked goods.
The interior of the St. Pete location will “reflect La Segunda’s Ybor City roots” and will feature red brick accent walls. Several ironwork accents made by Tampa-based Vasquez Custom Metals will be up throughout the café. The five-globe streetlights of Ybor will also get a subtle nod via globe-shaped pendant lighting in the café.
The original café opened in 1915 in Ybor and its second location opened in 2018 on Kennedy Boulevard in South Tampa. The St. Petersburg location will be open 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. seven days a week. |
