Sweetgreen is coming to St. Pete

Sweetgreen, the Los Angeles-based salad chain with a cult following, will be coming to St. Petersburg this year.

Plans submitted to the city show the company will have a restaurant with 27 indoor seats and 16 outdoor seats and will be located at 1114 Central Ave. in the collective of businesses known as Central Arcade in the Edge district.

This will be the second location for the California company in Tampa Bay. In October, Sweetgreen filed plans with the city of Tampa to build out a 2,300-square-foot storefront in Hyde Park Village.

The chain has more than 100 locations across the U.S., filed for a confidential initial public offering in June, and in November 2021 became a publicly traded company, debuting on the New York Stock Exchange.

The company — which launched in 2007 in Washington, D.C. — has a variety of salads, including its famous crispy chicken salad and Buffalo chicken bowl and warm bowls like its miso bowl and harvest bowl. Many locations also have local themed bowls like a catfish remoulade in Atlanta and a garlic chili shrimp bowl in Houston. Miso roasted veggies and rosemary focaccia are some of the sides available at the location.

The salad chain, which promotes healthy eating, has also committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2027.
